How can one discover the genuine soul of Paris? From the Place de laConcorde to the isle Saint Louis, passing by the Tuileries and the Louvre, the Pont Neuf and Notre–Dame-de-Paris cathedral, this is the historic heart of the city of Lights that hides behind the old buildings and in the small alleys. During the walk, we will discover the many myths and countless legends, which will take us back in time, from the Gallo-Roman era to the present day. Discover Paris and its islands (île de la Cité and île de Saint-Louis).
We will begin our afternoon at the Place de la Concorde, with its Egyptian obelisk and the largest sundial in the world, key location of the French Revolution. We will discover its history before going to the Jardin des Tuileries, to take a tour of the old fashioned carousel. Then we will walk to discover the Cour du Louvre and rue de Rivoli. By crossing the Pont-Neuf, we will arrive at the Île de la Cité, to the square du Vert-Galant. From here, we will take a boat ride, to see the main monuments of Paris and learn their history.
Through the Place Dauphine, we will see the peaceful life of Parisians – small cafes, pétanque players, flower pots at the windows. We will walk by the Conciergerie, the old majestic royal palace and the famous prison (it is at the Tour d’Argent that was held Marie-Antoinette), to the flower market of Elisabeth II, towards the Notre-Dame-de-Paris cathedral. Here, it is the reign of gargoyles and fantastic chimeras, which watch day and night the Zero Kilometer, considered as the beginning of the calculation of all the road distances. The small medieval streets of the île de la Cité are full of exciting stories that will transport us to the Middle Ages.
Another last bridge, and here we are at Île Saint-Louis. Today, it is famous not only for its history, or for its architecture but its ice-cream maker, Monsieur Bertillon! The small shop operates the same way, just as it did more than fifty years ago, and tourists from all over the world (as much as Parisians) come to taste the 70 flavors of ice cream and sorbets, such as the iconic wild strawberry sorbet, or salted caramel ice cream.
